About the garment
A six-and-a-half yard Banarasi silk saree in a forest-deep emerald, woven with a wide zari pallu and small floral booti throughout the body. Made to drape Nivi or Bengali — both shown in our drape guide.
The craft
Woven on the family handlooms of the Naqshbandi cluster in Banaras, where the booti motif has been passed down for four generations. The zari is real silver-gilt thread, not synthetic — it will tarnish gracefully over decades, the way it should.
Styling notes
- Pair with a contrast blouse — antique gold or deep wine both work
- A single Polki choker brings out the zari without competing with the pallu
- Pin the pallu high at the shoulder for the sangeet dance floor
- Loose pleats read modern; tighter classical pleats read formal
Care notes
- Dry-clean only · refold along different lines each year to prevent crease damage
- Store wrapped in muslin (never plastic) — silk needs to breathe
- Test any new perfume in a hidden corner before wearing — alcohol stains silk permanently
Drape
Six and a half yards including pallu. We recommend the Nivi drape for first-time wearers and the Bengali drape for a more dramatic pallu — both videos in the Drape Guide.
